VALDOBBIADENE: LA COLLINA PROTETTA DALL’UNESCO

VALDOBBIADENE: THE HILL PROTECTED BY UNESCO

Territories and places to discover

In the last article, our gustatory journey focused on Valdobbiadene and, in particular, on Prosecco Docg , the sparkling wine produced in this area, today Unesco cultural heritage . Considering, therefore, the importance of this location with a high concentration of wine, I wanted to deepen the subject with some other curiosities.

A rare pearl in the hilly heart of Veneto, Valdobbiadene is just twenty minutes by car from the small Renaissance town of Conegliano , known for being the birthplace of one of the greatest exponents of the Venetian school, Giovanni Battista Cima. Not only that, the discreet proximity to Treviso, another pole of tourist attraction, would make Valdobbiadene a much-awaited destination for travelers.

In fact, these hills are visited all year round, even during the winter season, since, in addition to the enchanting landscape, there is no shortage of excellent places to refresh and enjoy good food. In fact, I recently had the opportunity to have lunch at Trattoria Alla Cima , where not only the view is incredible, but also the typical dishes are exceptional. An excellent balance between novelty and tradition, with a careful choice of the area's excellent products.

Although I live near Valdobbiadene, which is why I have never felt the need to look for external accommodation, if you want to live a complete experience and feel pampered, I can only suggest the Hotel Villa Abbazia di Follina. A few years ago I was invited to spend a couple of nights there and it was like living a dream. I still remember the sensation I felt upon awakening, when the play of light and shadow in the halls of the ancient Venetian villa seemed to give me another journey, that of the time of a medieval castle.

But, if you are in Valdobbiadene and the temperatures favor an outdoor trip, I invite you to try the naturalistic itinerary of the Prosecco Superiore Ring , a journey to rediscover the enological and culinary tradition of this land, through the localities of San Pietro di Barbozza, Saccol and Santo Stefano. Right here, an obligatory stop is the Osteria senz'oste , an old farmhouse with a barn renovated into a tavern, where, however, the innkeeper is not there. In fact, the management is left to the trust of the individual consumer, who can buy the food and wine products by paying at the automatic cash desk in the kitchen. There is really everything: from a wide assortment of cheeses, cured meats, baked bread, sweets and coffee, to the availability of using utensils for the preparation of the outdoor banquet. And, as soon as you have stocked up on wine, you can sit at one of the outdoor tables between the rows of the vineyard to savor your aperitif at Doc , or rather, at Docg! (I recommend arriving before eleven in the morning, especially on weekends, to avoid finding so many people).

Not everyone knows that ...

The first GB Cerletti wine school in Italy was established in Conegliano in 1876, named after the agronomist and oenologist who founded it. Established to support the development of agriculture and viticulture in the Veneto region, it has always promoted research in the winemaking process, so as to become a place of great prestige for winemaking training.
